How to Become a North Dakota Notary

3) Get Your Notary Bond and Stamp

4) Submit Your Application to the State

Next, visit the Secretary of State's website to fill out your state notary application. You will need to create an account to access the state's online services portal if you don't have one already.

Enter all required information into the online application. Next, print your completed application and mail it to the Secretary of State along with your notary bond and the $36 state fee. Make your check payable to North Dakota Secretary of State.

5) Get Your Official North Dakota Notary Commission

Once the state receives your official notary application and bond, it will issue you a Certificate of Authorization and a Verification of Notary Stamping Device form. Affix an impression of your notary stamp on the verification form and return it to the Secretary of State by the specified deadline.

Next, the state will review and approve your stamp and issue you an official notary commission certificate. Before you begin to notarize documents, you must email a copy of your commission certificate to info@notaries.com. You can begin performing notarial acts on or after the commencement date found on your notary commission.

How to Renew Your North Dakota Notary Commission

Your North Dakota notary commission certificate will remain valid for four years. To renew your commission, you need to submit a renewal application before your current term expires. The renewal process is nearly identical to the process of becoming a new notary.

The first step is to purchase the North Dakota notary renewal package. After you complete your application, we'll send you a new notary bond and your updated notary stamp. Next, fill out the Notary Public Renewal form on the Secretary of State's website.
